The Religious People in Muhammad's eyes
I think it is interesting to think about the way Muhammad viewed people like Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. When I think of the Muslim faith I just think they care nothing about these people, who are very important to Christians. He still believes them to be just as holy and great, but the fact that Jesus is the son of God does not sit well. He simply believes Jesus was a great prophet of The Lord. I do find it odd that he believes that these people were Muslims and that Jewish people misunderstood them so their beliefs were the same as Muslims and they just corrupted them. He only had against the Jews what he saw as misunderstandings of the prophets. This is a very interesting topic however because no one really thinks to look into this religion historically or through the eyes of Muhammad.

I think that as a Christian, we see people as Abraham and Moses as stories, and we often forget that they are historical figures. They enter into different religions especially Islam due to the fact that the origins are so close together. The Islam people would have known the the important historical figures of the Hebrew people. The fact that he believed these people were simply misunderstood is a little far fetched. They obviously had a strong tie to the Israelites since Abraham was the father of the Israelites and Moses led them out of Egypt. I believe that if anyone is confused about anything it would have to be Muhammad. He should get his facts straight before he starts his own religion based on absurd "facts."
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed learning about Muhammad's background; it helps in understanding why and how he wrote the Qur'an. It is surprising to learn that he thought Abraham, Moses, and Jesus were Muslims, but when I think about it, it almost makes sense. Some of the principles and ideas in the Qur'an are similar to some of things these men talked about. Since these three religions had some similar foundational beliefs (like having worshipping only one true God), Muhammad thought that they had all began to follow God correctly - the Jews and Christians just misunderstood some of God's teachings.
