The Golden Rule

What is justice? Justice is the happy medium somewhere between the two extremes of being able to do wrong with no penalty and suffer wrong doings with no redress. I personally think the concept of justice is way over thought. It can be summed up in one simple sentence: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." This is the number one rule of all kindergarden classes for a good reason! We instill this method of thinking in our children at a young age expecting that it will stick. It is a good rule to live by, and it seems to solve the question of justice in a few easy words.

  1. What's interesting to me is that in Plat/Socrates' opinion justice must one done more for the good of the general public than individuals. He strangely favors communist thought here...

  2. Thats a good point to take note of. I will say though that I find it interesting to think about justice in these terms. I personally get frustrated a lot of the time in the discussions of justice in our readings because so much of the time they are relative. There is no absolute moral authority by which we can define justice beyond argument aside from our god. I would still say though that this golden rule can be found in what Jesus does. In fulfilling the need for justice done for our sins by dying on the cross, he did for us exactly that which he calls us to do for Him, give up anything and everything that is most dear to us, even our lives, for the glory of His kingdom.
